The 34-year-old man was walking in the Green Street area of Enfield at 5.30am on December 28 when he was attacked from behind.

The victim – who also had his phone stolen after the attack - was taken to an east London hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Police said they do not know the motive behind the attack and have today launched an appeal for information.

A Metropolitan Police Service spokesman said the attacker was a lone male, but no further description was available.
