Nathallya Figueiredo, a 25-year-old woman who had recently recently from France, was found inside her car with several stab wounds at 5am. She died before reaching hospital.
Earlier that night at 2am, police were called to another attack on another transgender woman in the beach resort.
A 35-year-old man who was seen arguing with the unnamed victim was arrested.
She was taken to hospital with stab wounds to her chest and arm, and remains in a serious condition.
Police are investigating if the two cases are related. Sofar, 48 transgender women have been murdered in Brazil since the beginning of the year
The family of the Figueiredo are planning a demonstration with NGO Livre Orientação Sexual.
‘This time of year, the coast receives many transsexuals,’ the group’s assistant secretary Glória Crystal told GloboNews, adding that 48 transgender women were murdered in Brazil last year.
‘These are scary numbers,’ she said.
The latest attacks come just over a week after a transgender woman Paola Bratho, 25, and a 17-year-old reportedly gay man were shot dead in bed in Limoeiro city on 8 January.
No suspects have been identified.
