The Anti-Terrorism Police Unit on Wednesday morning killed a terror suspect wanted by the Kenyan police in connection with the Garissa University College attack in April 2015
Among those killed was Suleiman Mohammed Awadh, on whose head police had put a Sh2 million bounty. The suspects hurled a grenade at the officers, who raided their house at 2.30am, but no one was injured.
Three others are said to have escaped with severe gunshot wounds.
Inside
the house, police found five hand grenades, a Beretta pistol with two
rounds of ammunition, phones with several SIM cards and ID cards
suspected to have been used to register the SIM cards.
Also
found was a map of Malindi indicating places the terrorists intended to
attack and another one showing how to connect to Boni Forest from
Malindi.
According to Malindi OCPD Matawa Machangi,
police also found a letter addressed to suspected Al-Shabaab financiers
requesting funds, clothing and food.
He added that the suspects who escaped were believed to have an AK-47 rifle.
Police had in April 2015 released pictures of nine men, among them Awadh, who were being sought following the Garissa University College attack.
