NDLEA nabs 14 traffickers, uncovers cocaine in drug packs

The Bayelsa State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency says its operatives have arrested 14 suspected drug traffickers in different parts of Yenagoa and its surrounding communities.
The command also said it seized a total of 7.1499 kilogrammes of different narcotic drugs including cocaine.

The agency’s spokesman, Ikenna Osakwe, who made the revelation in a statement on Thursday, said the feat was achieved in their operations in January 2016.

Osakwe said worthy of note was the discovery of 4.9 grammes of cocaine by operatives deceptively concealed inside a packed of a sealed pharmaceutical product.

He said the hidden cocaine was discovered by operatives on a motorised patrol along the East-West Road while being ferried to Port Harcourt, Rivers State, in a branded commercial bus.

The spokesman also warned all illegal drug peddlers and dealers that the agency would not tolerate their activities in the state, saying that no matter their strategies, they would surely be apprehended.

He also advised parents, guardians and well meaning residents of the state to be vigilant in their communities and report illegal drug activities to the command for appropriate action.

He urged residents of the state to partner with the Agency to prosecute the war against illicit drugs, which he said could only be achieved through collective efforts.
