A Nigerian national, who was convicted in a drug peddling case and
had jumped bail in 2012, was finally nabbed by the city crime branch
sleuths from Vasai on Tuesday.
The arrested person was identified as
Ugudu Ogabonna. According to deputy commissioner of police (detection) Dhananjay
Kulkarni, Versova police had arrested Ogabonna in 2008 in a drug
peddling case."Ogabonna had filed an appeal against his conviction and was on bail. He then went absconding on February 1, 2012.
On January 12 this year, the High Court had ordered to issue a fresh warrant against him and directed the crime branch to execute the same," he said.
He added, a special team from Unit II, comprising inspectors Santosh Kadam, Vijay Kamble, and constable Hridaynath Mishra, in absence of any details and photographs and after continuous efforts and technical analysis, managed to trace and arrest Ogabonna from Waliv in Vasai.
"He was living there with a new identity, in the name of Emeka John. He will be produced before the court on Wednesday," said Kulkarni.
