Tijani Babangida, who served as the personal assistant to the Super Eagles head coach, has been chopped from the post and will no longer serve in that capacity.
Rising from its meeting on Tuesday, the Executive Committee of the NFF unanimously approved the disengagement of the former Ajax Amsterdam winger.
The former international has been part of Oliseh’s setup as a personal assistant, a hitherto unknown capacity considering he (Oliseh) already has Salisu Yusuf, Alloy Agu and Jean-Francois Losciuto.
supersport.com scooped that some executive committee members of the board were against Babangida’s appointment but did not want to rock the boat, hence their silence when he was appointed.
This change comes at a time Nigerian football is going through a bad patch as occasioned by the disappointing outing of the Super Eagles at the 2016 African Nations Championship (Chan) and the subsequent outbursts by Oliseh on social media.
Accordingto NFF,
“The immediate disengagement of Mr Tijani Babangida as Personal Assistant to Super Eagles’ coach, Sunday Oliseh, as recommended by the Technical and Development Committee, was unanimously approved and General Secretary was therefore mandated to follow the due process in effecting his a statement from the NFF executive committee revealed".Babangida represented Nigeria at the Atlanta 1996 Olympics where the Dream Team won gold in the football event and was also part of the Super Eagles' squad to 1998 Fifa World Cup in France.
