Cannabis legalised in Australia

Aussie patients will soon be allowed to possess and use “medical marijuana” from approved suppliers after lawmakers rubber stamped new legislation.
Farms will be able to grow cannabis to feed a new green industry – expected to spring up to meet new demand. The government described the move as “historic”.
But junkies shouldn’t book a ticket to Australia just yet – as growing or toking weed for fun is still banned.

Under the new scheme, patients with a valid prescription can possess and use medicinal cannabis products manufactured from cannabis legally cultivated in Australia.

The new suppliers must be approved by a regulator.

The changes put Mary Jane in the same category as other medical drugs – like morphine.

Health minister Sussan Ley said: “This is the missing piece in a patient’s treatment journey and will now see seamless access to locally-produced medicinal cannabis products from farm to pharmacy.”
