The foster father of former president Goodluck Jonathan, Chief
Inegite Nitabai, 72, was yesterday night kidnapped by unknown gunmen in
the Otuoke community of Ogbia local government area of Bayelsa State.
The abduction of the Octogenarian makes it the second time he would be kidnapped by gunmen in the state.
It was gathered that gunmen, numbering five and armed with
sophisticated weapons stormed the residence of Chief Nitabia at about
10pm when he was alseep.
Some indigenes in the area said the abduction was done silently without shots fired.
The home of the abducted community leader is a stone throw from the heavily guarded country home of Jonathan.
A family source, Mr Oru Solomon, who confirmed the development, said
he was kidnapped in his home. He appealed to the kidnappers to free him
unhurt considering his old age.
The spokesman of the Bayelsa Police Command, Asimin Butswat, confirmed the development adding that investigation was ongoing.
Nitabai is a compound chief in President Jonathan’s extended family.
He is seen as a father-like figure to the former president.
