"World's Hottest Drug Dealer" Arrested in Mexico
After two years on the run, Ana Maria Hernandez, a 38-year-old high-level drug dealer, was arrested in Chihuahua, Mexico, and will be extradited to the United States, My San Antonio reports.
Hernandez was known as "La Muñeca," (Spanish for "doll") in the Sinaloa and Juarez drug cartels because she reportedly used her "good looks and wit" to smuggle cocaine all throughout the U.S.
The police have not yet released Hernandez's completely un-blurred mug shot, but they have circulated the above "Wanted" sign. She is currently being held in a Mexico City jail before her extradition.
According to ABC News, Hernandez and her ex-husband Daniel Ledezma pled guilty in 2013 to drug smuggling and bribery charges. Ledezma, who was a U.S. Border Patrol Agent at the time, would often wave Hernandez through to Mexico when he knew she had drugs in her truck. He was convicted and put in prison, but she managed to flee.
"Beautiful women are highly coveted by the cartel leaders, they bring them into the fold and a lot of times have relationships with them," former chief of international operations for the Drug Enforcement Administration Mike Vigil told MySA.com.
Hernandez — who has been deemed the "world's hottest drug dealer" by some — has allegedly paid tens of thousands of dollars in cash on trips, a pool for her home, and clothing over the past few years. She's believed to have smuggled thousands of kilograms of cocaine back and forth between the U.S. and Mexico in that time.
