In order to amend the bail conditions, the rape case against the grandson of late
former president Nelson Mandela has been postponed to Monday
After being accused of raping a 15 year old girl, the 24-year-old father of three appeared before the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Friday. But the absence of the presiding officer did not help as the prosecutor requested the postponement of the case in order to enable them amend the bail conditions.
However, the accused was seriously warned by the magistrate not to make contact with the victim or he will be arrested which was affirmed by the accused.
According to News24, the accused who requested not to be treated as Mandela but a normal citizen of South Africa was granted R7,000 bail after spending one week in jail in August after the State brought a rape case against him in August 7.
In her affidavit, the victim claimed the accused had
forcefully kissed her, put his hands in her pants and raped her. The accused has disputed this, claiming in his affidavit the
sex was consensual and that he had no idea she was under age. He further stressed that the club where they met did not allow entry to people under the age of 21. It was alleged that the victim was smoking and drinking which further buttressed the point.
