It is another wonderful weekend in the UK. We celebrated halloween 2 daysago and we are also getting ready for Guy Fawkes night in 3 days time.
But that will not be said of a family who are traumatised and shocked after a family member was brutally stabbed in Belfast. The attack happened in Cullingtree Road on 1/11/2015 around 6am GMT and the victim suffered serious injuries. He was taken to Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast where he is undergoing surgery.
According to BBC News, Sinn Féin councillor Mary McConville said there was a need to address knife crime in the city. She further said that
"More
needs to be done to deal with the growing knife crime in our society
and I am calling on young people not to be drawn into carrying knives." Alex Wood SDLP MLA describe the attack as shocking and appalling and maintained that
"Any level of knife crime is unacceptable, and more needs to be done to deal with knife crime in our society."
We still on the same issue of knife crime. Our politicians just cry and cry without doing anything. Standing there and saying something should be done without making any effort to resolve it will not help. Just yesterday a woman was murdered in her flat in Cricklewood in North-West London and today a man is stabbed in Belfast the morning. Belfast stabbing is the one we know about and hopefully we will not read or hear any sad news about stabbings in the UK.
Remember it was Halloween and was on a Sarturday too. Many people were out and about. The news is beginning to come in. A 28-year-old man was arrested after reports of a stabbing on Berry Street in Liverpool city centre last night. The incident between two groups of males took place at about 1.10am in the early hours of Sunday. Four men were taken to hospital suffering from minor cuts. A 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 wounding. He has been taken to a police station in Merseyside to be interviewed.
The Police Service in Norther Ireland is investigating an incident in Co Armagh in which a 24-year-old man was stabbed. The man was assaulted by two men in the Corrigan’s Court area of Armagh at approximately 2.15am on Saturday. He was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries which are not believed to be life threatening. A 27-year-old man has been arrested
Another man was stabbed to death in a horrific Halloween attack in a Nuneaton park.
Police have confirmed they have launched a murder investigation and arrested four people after the incident at 9.26pm yesterday in Pool Bank Recreational Park off Queens Road. Paramedics helped one man, who was in cardiac arrest, and managed to restart his heart before he was taken to University Hospital, Walsgrave. Doctors fought to save the man but he was pronounced dead overnight. He has yet to be formally identified. The second man received multiple stab wounds but police say his injuries are not life threatening or life changing (Coventry Telegraph).
Eventhough this happened in Ireland, it is worthy to document as Mirror UK reports that one man died while another is fighting for his life after two separate halloween stabbing incidents in Dublin. A 21-year-old man died after suffering "serious stab wounds" to his body at the Oliver Bond flat complex, Dublin 8. The incident occurred shortly before 2.45am, the Irish Mirror reports .The young man was taken to St James's Hospital following the brutal incident.
Sadly, he was pronounced dead a short time later. A post mortem is expected to take place later today. Meanwhile, another man is fighting for his life after he was stabbed at a Halloween night bonfire. The horror knifing happened in Drumheath, Blanchardstown , north Dublin, at around 7:30pm. He was rushed to James Connolly Memorial Hospital in Blanchardstown, where he is condition is described as critical.
How long will we continue to read this kind of heartbreaking news? Sinn Féin councillor Mary McConville calling on young peoploe not to be crawn to carrying knives. A clarion call with no effect i guess. What ahs been put in place to make young people know the dangers of carrying knives? Public enlightenment campaigns? TV anti Knife campaigns? Lectures in colleges and schools? These should be in place and teenagers should be targeted.
All my years of living in the UK, i have never seen anti knife crime campaign advertismens on BBC and ITV. These are the channels people can veiw free with their sky box without subscription yet they have spaces to show election advertisment of Labour and Conservatives who wants peopole to vote for them. BBC have a space to show us crap advertisments of Strictly come Dancing, while ITV bores us with their X Factor and Britian Got talent shows. No advertsiments, no programmes to sensitise the people especially the teenagers on the dangers of carrying knives, on these two most viewed channels in the UK.
If BBC one can dedicate one hour to show us about Class of Manchester United's 92 players who are busy making money from their new club Salford FC,which was watched by 3million views according to broadcastnow UK why can't we have just 30 minutes to educate people on knife crime? BBC is owned by the Government so this should be a top priority to them. According to express.co.uk, "while 5.4 million people tuned in to watch X Factor's last night live show on ITV, strictly come dancing had whooping 9.35 million viewers who tuned in to watch the its Halloween-themed extravaganza". Imagine the number of young people and adults who will be sensitized if just 30 minutes is dedicated on ITV and BBC channnels educating people on the dangers of carrying knives rather than wasting it on shows that won't contribute any meaningful thing to viewers lives? Are we chasing shadows?
It is not enough for the governement to tell us that the law have been reformed to punish knife crime offenders. Some of these offenders are illiterates and hardly read. Even if they are literates, i suppose they hardly read these reforms when they are busy with their gangstersim looking for their next victims.
How far can we go with this?
To be continued................................
