Forbes 2016 Billionaires: Dangote Climbs, Others

Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote moved up 16 places from last year to become the 51st richest person in the world in Forbes 2016 World Billionaires list released Wednesday.
Dangote’s net worth, rose to $15.4bn from $14.7bn in 2015. He was ranked 67th in the 2015 listFour other Nigerians were also listed on the Forbes annual billionaires list which contains 1,810 billionaires in dollar terms from around the world.
They are: Dr. Mike Adenuga, Mr. Femi Otedola, Mrs. Folorunsho Alakija and Abdulsamad Rabiu.

Adenuga, who is the Chairman of Globacom was ranked the 103rd richest man in the world and second in Africa. He was ranked 393rd in 2015.

He is also Nigeria’s second richest man, with investments in telecom, oil production and real estate.

Globacom is the second largest operator in Nigeria with 32 million subscribers, his oil exploration company, Conoil, operates 6 oil blocks in Nigeria.

Femi Otedola was ranked 1,011th in the world, with a net worth of $1.8bn. He is the Chairman of Forte Oil, with over 500 gas stations across Nigeria.

The only Nigerian woman on the list, Mrs Alakijah, is the vice chair of Famfa Oil, she fell from 949th in 2015 to 1,121st in 2016, as a result of the dwindling oil prices. She is estimated to be worth $1.6bn.

Abdulsamad Rabiu, who boast a net worth of $1.1billion, was ranked 1577th in the world and 4th in Nigeria. He is a multinational business man, with investments in sugar refining, cement production, real estate, logistics and port operations.

Microsoft’s CEO Bill Gates remains the richest person in the world with a net worth of $75 billion, despite losing about $4.2 billion compared to 2015. He has been No. 1 one for 3 years in a row and topped the list 17 out of 22 years.

Zara’s Amancio Ortega moved up to Number 2 for the first time, displacing Mexico’s Carlos Slim, who slips to Number 4, while American businessman, Warren Buffet retained the Number 3 spot.

Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, is the biggest gainer, moving up 10 spots from last year to claim the ranking as the world's sixth richest person. The tech geek was estimated at $44.6 billion, up from $33.4 billion in the 2015 ranking.
