New Parents Sold Their Baby On Facebook So They Could Buy An iPhone

A couple sold their own newborn baby for £2,500 so that they could buy an Apple iPhone and a motorbike.
The father of the baby, known only as A Duan, used Facebook and social media network QQ to find a buyer for the tot, who was just 18-days old at the time.

His partner, given the pseudonym Xiao Mei, gave permission for Duan to sell the baby when they both started struggling for money.

The pair, from Tong’un, China, were both 19-years-old when the baby was accidentally conceived.
After the transaction was discovered by police, Mei reportedly told police that she had no idea that selling the baby was illegal.

She told them: “I myself was adopted, and many people in my hometown send their kids to other people to raise them.”

A Duan was sentenced to three years in jail while his girlfriend was given a two-year suspended sentence.

The unnamed buyer of the baby bought the child for his sister, according to People’s Daily.
She apparently still has the baby while officials decide where it should live.
