A Romanian man was admitted to hospital this
week after his wife allegedly stabbed him in the genitals when he failed
to bring her flowers for International Women's Day.
Ionel Popa, 40, from the the village of Dragomireşti in east Romania,
arrived at Vaslui County Hospital at around 10am on Tuesday morning,
where he required emergency surgery.
Aurora Popa of Vaslui County Ambulance Services told Est News reporters
Ionel had "stab wounds in the scrotal region ... He told my colleagues
his wife was upset because he didn't bring her flowers for Women's Day."
The mayor of Dragomireşti, Aurel
Turcu, echoed Popa's account, saying: "From what I understand, the woman
got angry with him that he did not take the flowers and then cut him
with a knife in the genitals."
However, local news site Vremeanoua reports
that the wife, 40-year-old Marinela Benea, gave a different account.
She claims the "flowers" story was made up, and that they had in fact
been arguing about his failure to do household chores.
She claims the injury to Ionel's testicles was accidental, and that he was "pretty annoyed" about it.
Police are investigating the incident.
