Indian teenager raped and set on fire, police say

A 15-year-old girl is in hospital after she was raped and set on fire on the rooftop terrace of her home in a village outside the Indian capital of New Delhi, according to police.
The teenager is in hospital with severe burns, reports said. The girl was found on the rooftop terrace by members of her family.

Police have arrested a 20-year-old man in Tigri village in connection with the attack.
Yadram Singh of the Bisrakh police station was quoted by the Associated Press as saying that the man had "burns on his hands".

Mr Singh said the man had been charged with several offences, including rape and attempted murder.
Indian newspapers reported the teenager had burns on 95 per cent of her body.

She apparently told police that she had been raped, beaten and set on fire by a man who had spent months stalking her.

In 2012, the fatal gang rape of a young female student provoked a national outcry, with demonstrators calling on the authorities to do more to tackle the issue.

But India has struggled to tackle sexual assaults on young girls and children.
As many as 36,735 rape cases were reported in 2014, with 2,096 of them in New Delhi.

  1. Why are there so many rape cases in India? Don't they have a Govt that will enact a tough and strict punishment to offenders to deter others? All rapists should be fed alive to crocodiles 😅😅😅
