The report also said - (paraphrasing here) .. since Amaechi has gone to court to challenge the contents of the petition and the Judicial panel, they cannot recommend his confirmation.
The Senate Committee recommended “that since the Ministerial Nominee [Rotimi Amaechi] had gone to the Court of Appeal, to challenge the content of the petition and the white paper of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry, the Senate is unable to recommend the consideration of his confirmation.”
This much awaited report has been at the center of controversy surrounding his screening and confirmation process to be minister. The Committee’s chairman, Senator Samuel Anywanwu, argued that Mr. Amaechi could not be screened by the Senate until the report had been reviewed.
The question to ask is - why did the Senate ask their Ethics committee to look into a matter, refused to screen Amaechi until they get the report of the committee, but then went ahead to screen him (without waiting for the report), then got the report and again chose to ignore the recommendation of the report?
