Police officers were deployed this morning to the Delta State Multi-Door Courthouse DSMDC, Asaba, venue of the judgment of the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.

The chairman of the three-man tribunal, Justice Nasir Gunmi and his colleagues arrived the tribunal at about 8.30 am, escorted by siren-blowing security agents and went straight to their chamber.

All Progressives Congress, APC governorship candidate in the last election, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, is challenging the victory of the governor, Senator Ifeanyi‎ Okowa, who was the People Democratic Party, PDP, candidate.
Labour Party governorship candidate, Chief Great Ogboru, is also contesting Okowa’s election.
As at 9.02 am, police officers and operatives of the Department of State Services were still busy screening people‎, but many were denied entrance because of the small space in the court room.
However, lawyers, journalists and party officials, who properly identified themselves were allowed entry.
As of the time of this report, Senator James Manager representing Delta South Senatorial district, chair, PDP in the state, Chief Edwin Uzor‎ and his Labour Party counterpart, Chief Tony Ezeagu were already seated in the court room.
The Multi-Door court venue was probably chosen for the judgment because of security reason
