Facebook unleashes 'Twitter-like function that allows users to search what you are posting about'

Facebook has boosted its search capabilities to allow users to search for topics being discussed in people's posts.
The social network has announced it is taking a leaf out of Twitter's book to allow it's 1.2 billion users to make direct searches for particular phrases or news items being discussed in posts.
The new search capability was launched today and also allows people to dive directly into conversations.
Vice president of Facebook search Tom Stocky said: "Today, we're updating Facebook Search so that in addition to friends and family, you can find out what the world is saying about topics that matter to you.
"When something happens in the world, people often turn to Facebook to see how their friends and family are reacting."
Mr Stocky said the social network boasts an index of more than two trillion posts.
The new search works by allowing a user to type a word into the search box.
Facebook will then auto-suggest some popular search items and phrases and if the user then taps on a result, a list will appear with articles, quotes, videos and other related posts from other users.
The new search functions will initially be available just for members who use US English settings.
