A local man went berserk Tuesday and brutally assaulted his wife with a burning log before setting their
thatched kitchen on fire after he accused her for delaying serving him supper
Jabulani Moyo, 27, of Makochekeredze village, St Kelvin Chipinge, in Zimbabwe
bashed wife Cecilia Mtetwa, 18, with a burning log on the neck for late
cooking and for delaying serving him sadza.
Magistrate Noah Gwatidzo said Moyo should undergo mental examination before trial.
Prosecutors told the court that Moyo on Tuesday came home and saw Mtetwa preparing supper.
He complained that he was hungry and accused Mtetwa of delaying in preparing his food.
The two had a misunderstanding and started trading harsh words.
Moyo reportedly pulled out a burning log from the fire and assaulted his wife once on the neck and once on the right hand.
He also assaulted his mother-in-law, Jane Sithole, 59, who tried to intervene.Mtetwa and Sithole took to their heels and sought refuge in the bush.
The lunatic set the thatched kitchen on fire damaging property worth $200 which included 4x50kg maize grain, 4x20litres buckets of same,
four pots, 10 metal plates, two plastic dishes and two litres of
cooking oil.
Mtetwa went to the nearest hospital where she was treated while the matter was reported to the police leading to Moyo’s arrest.
