Nigerian National Held With Drugs Worth Rs. 5 Crore in India

A Nigerian national was arrested from the outskirts of New Delhi for the possession of banned drugs worth around Rs. 5 Crore in the International market.

A team of Narcotics Control Bureau or NCB's Delhi zonal unit seized about 2 kg of heroin from the Greater Noida residence of the 29-year-old foreign national late on Sunday.
"The Nigerian is in India on a business visa," NCB Zonal Director Rohit Sharma said, adding, they are not revealing the identity of the accused as there are some legal procedures to be completed.

"The value of the seized narcotic drugs in the international market is about Rs. 5 crore," Mr Sharma said.

Officials said the agency was working on leads it had got in this regard through a suspect air courier last week as they have also mounted a strict vigil in view of the Christsmas and New Year parties season picking up in the National Capital Region.

The foreigner has been arrested under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS), they said.
