Gang Rape: Cultists Assault Delta State University Undergraduate

Suspected gang rapists currently operating at the Delta State-owned University town, Abraka, at the weekend allegedly raped a female undergraduate of the university.
It was reliably gathered that the victim identified as Cecilia (surname withheld), an undergraduate in the department of Sociology, was among four other girls who surrendered themselves to be raped by the suspected rapists.

The rapists, numbering over 20, were alleged to have ambushed their victims on their way home after evening church service on the fateful Saturday.

Although three other victims were said to have escaped after the first round of assault, but Cecilia, the last victim, could not as the gang allegedly held her down with a gun to her head.

A twist in the story said that some of the raped girls were members of a cult group called ‘AKE’ Confraternity and did not know that rape was part of the initiation rites and only got to know when they got to the initiation ground.

Police public pelations officer in the state, Mrs. Celestina Kalu, who confirmed the incident, said the police stormed an uncompleted building in their hideout where the victim was being raped by one of the rapists, while four other girls were waiting for their turn as part of the cult initiation.

Mrs. Kalu disclosed that four of the suspected rapists were arrested while the girls were rescued and the severely injured victim was taken to the hospital for treatment.

According to her, “the Divisional Police Officer, Abraka Division, received information that a girl was crying in an uncompleted building in the bush.

“Based on the report, detectives stormed the building and found out that a cult group known as ‘AKE’ was conducting initiation of new members and that one of the girls was being raped as part of initiation rites while others were waiting for their turn.”
