Breaking News: One dead after suspected terror attack at airport in Istanbul

A suspected bomb went off at Sabiha Gokcen International Airport in Istanbul, Turkey, at about 2am local time midnight GMT on Wednesday.
A 30-year-old woman reportedly died of head wounds and another person was injured after the blast which is believed to have been on a plane near one of the buildings.

Police armed with rifles and protective vests have imposed tight security at entrances to the airport.
Specialists are checking other planes and the area for traces of explosives.
Police are considering all possible reasons for the explosion – including a terrorist act.
Local media in Turkey is reporting it as a possible terrorist attack.
Security has been heightened at the airport and police are working at the scene of the blast.
Vehicles entering the airport are being searched and a police helicopter is circling overhead.
The explosion occurred on a parked Pegasus Airlines plane.

No passengers were on the aircraft but two cleaning staff on a nearby plane were caught in the blast.
Zehra Yamac was rushed to hospital with head wounds – but died of her injuries.
Another is being treated for an injured hand.

Pegasus Airlines – a budget carrier based in Istanbul – said the cause of the blast was unclear.
Operations are continuing normally at the airport.
