German Police Say Bodies of 7 Babies Found at Bavarian House

Police have launched murder investigation of what are believed to be seven babies have been found at an apartment in a Bavarian town, German police said Friday.

A local woman contacted emergency services after finding one body on Thursday afternoon at the apartment in Wallenfels, police said. Police then found several more bodies in a room at the apartment.

Police and prosecutors believe there were seven dead babies, police said in a statement. The bodies are being examined by forensic experts, but the examinations "will take some time in view of their poor condition, in some cases," and results shouldn't be expected before the beginning of next week, it added.

Authorities said forensic tests will also have to establish whether there are more than seven bodies, news agency dpa reported.
Police hunt has now been launched for the 46-year-old mother of the seven babies.
The woman lived in the house for 18 years and was the owner of a local news kiosk.  Police said she and her husband had three children aged between 12 and 13.

But she had "several" children from previous relationships - the children thought to be the dead infants discovered in the house of horrors.
It was unclear how long the babies had been dead or who, if anyone, was living there at the time of the discovery.
