Men arriagned for allegedly beating brothers to coma

Two men, Ezinne Chukwuma and Moses James, were on Wednesday charged before a Mararaba Grade 1 Area Court at Aso Pada in Nasarawa for allegedly beating up two brothers to coma.
The accused, Chukwuma, 30, and James, 28, both from Mararaba are facing a five-count charge of criminal conspiracy, trespass, assault, mischief and theft.

The Prosecutor, Cpl. Friday Adaji, told the court that the accused conspired to commit the offence on Nov. 23 at about 4:00 p.m. along Tudun Wada in Mararaba. Adaji alleged that one Chinedu Matthew reported the matter at the police station, saying that the accused and two others still at large assaulted his brothers.

“ They broke into the complainant’s house, beat him and his brothers, damage their television set, valued at N25, 000 and they also went away with a phone valued at N4, 000. “The accused persons beat them to coma before they were rushed to a nearby hospital,’’ the prosecutor said.

Adaji said the offence contravened Sections 97, 348, 265, 327 and 288 of the Penal Code. The accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges. The Judge, Mr Albert Maga, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 each with one surety in like sum.

He ordered that the surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and must submit two passport photographs each. Maga adjourned the case to Nov. 31 for mention.
