Woman blames her husband after she was Arrested For Trafficking 4.450kg of Cocaine

A Nigerian woman who was caught with 4.450 kilogramme of cocaine at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos has blamed her ill-health and her husband for her involvement in the illicit act, while another Chizoba Mbonu by name was arrested with 7kg of cannabis.

Modinat, 44 years old and indigene of Kwara State told investigators that she became involved in drug trafficking after she suffered an ailment that took away all her resources.
She said, “I was married but later separated. I am the only person taking care of myself.

Chizoba Mbonu, a graduate of Business Administration who is currently facing drug trafficking charges in a Federal High Court in Lagos, was arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency trying to smuggles 7kg of cannabis to China.

It was learnt that Mbonu and a trader, Modinat Abdulrasaq, were apprehended at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos with drugs that reportedly tested for cocaine and cannabis.
Mbonu, a clearing and forwarding agent, allegedly wanted to export 7 kilogrammes of cannabis to China while Abdulrasaq had attempted to smuggle cocaine weighing 4.5 kilogrammes to India.
Mbonu, in her statement to the agency, blamed the arrest on her nonchalant attitude, saying the bag which contained the drug was given to her by a client but she failed to check it thoroughly.

She said, “I accept blame for not checking the bag carefully when a client gave it to me. My job is very risky because we assist people in sending cargoes. I feel bad that this is happening to me when the first case is still ongoing. I hail from Imo State. I am a graduate of Business Administration and married with two children.”.

This was contained in a statement issued in Lagos on Monday by Mitchell Ofoyeju, the Head, Public Affairs of NDLEA. The statement said both suspects, Modinat Alake and Chizoba Mbonu, were apprehended by officers of the agency at the airport in Lagos.

The statement further reveals that the suspects were currently assisting narcotic investigators with facts relating to the hard drugs.

The suspects will soon be arraigned
