The nativity scene comes complete with a zombie Mary and Joseph, a razor-toothed and demonic baby and three undead wise men and has understandably angered Christian groups.
But city officials in Cincinnati, Ohio, have not seen the funny side and have threatened to fine the Dixons $500 (£333) for every day they keep it up.
It is the second year the Dixons have built the zombie nativity scene. Last year they were told they did not have a permit for it so this year they made sure they applied for permission.
But their application was declined.
Ms Dixon said: “Last year they apparently dropped the charges. This year we must have made them mad because they are hounding us about it.”
Local religious groups are furious about it and have bombarded the nativity scene with pamphlets.
One of them reads: "God frowns upon this manger scene. Jesus has supreme power over death and evil; he is not a zombie."
Many Christians have posted messages on the couple’s Facebook page accusing them of blasphemy.
The couple insist they are not atheists and said it was simply “a wonderful piece of artwork”.
