Man arriagned for robbing a taxi driver at gun point

37 year old Joseph Ozoemena today, appeared before Chief Magistrates' Court in Ikeja for allegedly robbing as taxi driver at gun point. for allegedly robbing a taxi driver at gun point. Ozoemena with no fixed address was today charged with armed robbery.
Inspector Simon Imhonwa the prosecutor, conformed to the court that the offence was committed on Nov. 14 at Lekki Phase 1 gate around 3p.m.
He said the accused, in company for some others still at large, boarded a taxi belonging to Mr Collins Emodi and robbed him. “The accused and his gang flagged down a taxi at Lekki Phase 1 Gate under the guise of seeking transportation.

“As soon as they boarded the cab and was in transit, they attacked the driver, Mr Emodi, and dispossessed him of his cell phone and N45,000 cash on him at gun point”, Imhonwa said.
Imhonwa said the accused was arrested following a police tip off.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 1(2) Robbery and Firearm Act Laws of the Federation of Nigeria. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Bola Osunsami, ordered that the accused be remanded in custody pending further investigation into the case by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPPs).

“The charge shows probable cause, hence the file should be duplicated and forwarded to the DPP for legal advice; the accused should be remanded in prison custody pending the outcome of the investigation”, Osunsami said. Osunsanmi adjourned the case to Feb. 18 for hearing.
