Man sets wife on fire after she filed for divorce

A 38-year-old woman, Chithra, who was set on fire by her estranged husband K. Mohandoss and two others at S.S. Colony on Tuesday succumbed to burns at Government Rajaji Hospital.
The police said that married in 2001, the couple had three children. However, due to differences of opinion they had been living separately since 2012.
Meanwhile, Chithra had filed a divorce petition with Madurai District Family Court. The woman, who was living with her parents in Vanamamalai 2nd Cross Street off Bypass Road, had come to the court on Tuesday for the hearing.

When she was returning home, Mohandoss, who runs a travels business in Chennai, and two others intercepted her car near her house and pulled her out. They doused her with petrol, set her on fire and fled the scene. S.S. Colony police are on the lookout for the accused.
