Three years after the assassination of the civil war veteran, General
Muhammadu Shuwa, the Nigerian military yesterday arrested the man who
led the mortal attack that took place in his home in Maiduguri, Borno
State.
Mamman Shuwa, as he was fondly called by his folks, was killed in
cold blood on November 2, 2012 by a group of young men who rode on a
tricycle and gained access into the general’s premises pretending to be
guests.
His killing was one of the first high-profile assassination carried out by Boko Haram.
Spokesman of the Nigeria Army, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman,
confirmed the arrest of the Boko Haram kingpin in Kano where he had been
hiding.
“The officials of Nigerian military intelligence have arrested a
suspected killer of Major General Mohammed Shuwa (rtd),” said Colonel
Usman.
“Mohammed Shuwa was murdered in his residence in Maiduguri, Borno
State by suspected Boko Haram sect member on November 2, 2012.
“The retired military officer was the first General Officer
Commanding of the Nigerian Army’s 1st Division. He also commanded the
Nigerian Army’s 1st Division during the Nigerian Civil War.”
Usman confirmed that the suspect would be paraded in Kano where he was arrested.
