Yvonne Adkins was with her new lover Omoleye Babatumde
Peter, who she met just one week earlier at a bus stop, as her
three-month-old baby was downstairs
A man who had drunken sex with a woman as her baby died on a sofa has
said he has not spoken to her since - but he would like his bag back.
Shameless Yvonne Adkins
was taking part in a booze-fuelled nine-hour sex romp with lover
Omoleye Babatumde Peter as her three-month-old baby lay unattended
downstairs.
Adkins, 32, necked whisky before taking her sex
partner, who she had met just one week earlier at a bus stop, upstairs -
leaving baby Shanelle on a sofa. The baby, who had suffered from reflux and vomiting since birth, was found lifeless the following morning wearing only a tiny tracksuit and no blanket or bed clothes.
Paramedics were called to property in Meir, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffs., who found the baby unresponsive and performed CPR.
She was rushed to Royal Stoke University Hospital but despite the efforts of doctors she was pronounced dead at 8.05am.
Today Mr Peter told North Staffordshire Coroner's Court in a statement how he had met the "fat lady" at a bus station.
He said: "I came to the UK in 2009 and recently moved to Stoke-on-Trent from Bristol.
"I had just arrived at Hanley Bus Station when I saw a fat lady pushing a buggy with a small baby inside.
"I went and asked her about an address and a taxi. She gave me a taxi number and I asked if she could be my friend because I didn't have any friends in the area.
"She said yes and gave me her mobile number. I started texting her a lot and we met up the next day at her house. I started sleeping at her house and having sex with her.
"On May 7, 2014, I came round to her house. We had dinner and went to bed at about 9.40pm.
"Yvonne told me the kids normally slept downstairs.
"We had sex for about 10 minutes and fell asleep. I didn't hear any noise from downstairs that night.
"I asked Yvonne to wake me up at 5am because I had work, but she didn't.
"I quickly got dressed and went downstairs. I left through the front door and didn't know where the children were.
"Yvonne called me later saying the baby couldn't breathe. I said she should call an ambulance and the girl's father."I asked if she wanted me to come back but she said no".
"She text me later saying the baby was dead. This was the last contact I had with her.
"I was really shocked and scared. I don't want any further contact with her. But my bag is still at her house and I want it back."
Senior coroner for Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire Ian Smith told the court Adkins had been neglectful in her duties as a mother.
He said she had put her "own interests and pleasures" ahead of taking care of her own children.
Recording an open verdict, he added: "By leaving her child downstairs unattended save for her two young children she put her child at risk.
"She has been punished by the courts for that - quite rightly so.
"But the courts couldn't convict her of any more than that because there is no evidence of exactly how she died.
"She was neglectful in her duty as a mother. Earlier this year, Adkins pleaded guilty to cruelty of a child at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court and was given an 18-month prison sentence, suspended for two years.
