Police have launched a murder investigation into the attack in Raglan Road in Smethwick, Sandwell, West Mids.
A forensics tent has been erected next to The Puffing Billy pub yesterday and teams have been going in and out of it in white suits throughout the day.
Det Insp Warren Hines from West Midlands Force CID said: "We are investigating what happened during the early hours of this morning.
A woman near the scene has said she heard "shouting and screams" in the early hours.
Speaking to the Birmingham Mail, she said: "I heard a commotion outside at about 1.30am.
"I heard shouting and screams.
"You do hear arguments breaking out at times especially when the pubs close so I didn't think too much if it.
"I just thought it was people who had come out of the pub and may have had too much to drink.
"To find out a 15-year-old boy has been stabbed to death is just terrible, absolutely horrific."
Det Insp Warren Hines said: "Enquiries are at an early stage and officers are looking at CCTV and taking witness statements.
"Forensic investigations are on-gong at the scene.
