A Thai fisherman has become a local hero after video was released showing him lying face-down in the mud to rescue two tourists who became stuck. Cameraman Theerasak Saksritawee captured the moment two Norwegian tourists, reportedly around 60 years old, became stuck in the thick mud at Krabi yesterday.

The pair, who were taking birdwatching photos on the muddy beach, were caught up to their thighs in the thick mud when the fisherman arrived. The video shows the local man first taking their camera gear to higher ground before trying to lift the pair out with his arms.


The first method only makes the fisherman sink into the mud with them, so instead he tries a much more humbling tactic. By lying flat on his face and letting the tourists put all their weight on him they are able to crawl out of the quagmire.

With a smile the fisherman then returns to his little boat. The heartwarming video has been viewed more than a million times after being posted on Facebook some 24 hours ago.
