The sacred bones of Christian saints have been discovered amid the ruins of an ancient monastery in Syria, it has been claimed.

Photographs taken at the ruins of the Mar Elian (Saint Julian) monastery in Qaryatayn show a series of bones scattered around the floor and stacked up in rooms.
The town is a strategic location in central Syria which had been under Islamic State rule until its liberation by government forces in recent weeks.

Channel 4 News reporter Lindsey Hilsum was part of a group visiting the monastery after its near destruction by ISIS thugs intent on wiping out Christian identity in the region.
