Video emerged showing police officers in Georgia beating Nigerian student Mathew Ajibade to death. Unfortunately, the ex police officers was tried and the jury has since ruled on the case, acquitting the now-fired officers of the most serious charge, but finding them guilty of lesser charges.
The 21-year-old student from Nigeria was beaten and a taser was used on him multiple times during what his family describes as a “bipolar episode.” The cops left him restrained to a chair overnight. When they checked on him in the morning, he was dead. Nine officers were fired because of this, but only two faced charges.
“A jury on Friday found [Former Chatham County Sheriff’s Deputy Jason Kenny, 31, and his former supervisor, Cpl. Maxine Evans, 56] not guilty on the involuntary manslaughter charges, but Kenny was convicted of cruelty to an inmate. Evans was convicted of perjury and public records fraud for falsifying a report,” CNN reports.
An attending nurse, named Gregory Brown, was also acquitted of manslaughter charges, though this was due to investigative and prosecutorial errors. He was also found guilty for falsifying records on Tuesday.
