A 16-year-old boy has been stabbed to death at a birthday party in
east London, making him the first victim of knife crime in the capital
this year.
Police believe the teenager had gone to a female friend's birthday party which was attended by more than 100 people.
It was then that what is described by police as a "confrontation" began outside the club with four male youths and the victim.
One of the males is said to have stabbed the teenager before all four ran away. Party-goers tried to save the boy and called the emergency services to the Ashton Playing Fields off Chigwell Road, Woodford, but he died later in hospital.
A post-mortem examination will take place on Monday in Walthamstow. No arrests have been made so far.
