Gunmen take hostages after storming Baghdad shopping centre

Gunmen have shot dead at least 10 people and taken several hostages after storming a shopping centre in Baghdad.
Militants set off a car bomb at the entrance to the Jawaher shopping centre - which is situated in a mainly Shiite area in the east of the Iraqi capital - before moving in.

State television said the security services were surrounding the site of a "terrorist attack" and unconfirmed reports suggest the attackers are wearing suicide vests.

75 people are feared to have been taken hostage inside the premises, according to police and medical officials but it is believed that 10 people were killed while 27 wounded in the bomb blast

No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack but so-called Islamic State often targets the country's Shiite population.
