Dwight
Yorke has been banned from driving for six months after he pleaded
guilty to speeding in his convertible Corvette in April last year.
The former Manchester United striker was caught driving at 66mph in a 40mph zone in a sports car he helped promote in 2013.
The
44-year-old broke a temporary speed limit in a red convertible Corvette
Stingray made by the Red Devils' shirt sponsors Chevrolet on April 13.
Yorke's
indiscretion in his £60,000 car occurred on the southbound carriageway
of the M42/M6 Toll near Curdworth in Warwickshire, when he was caught by
an automatic speed camera.
On
December 17, the former Trinidad and Tobago international pleaded
guilty by post and on Thursday morning he was banned from driving for
six months for totting up more than 12 points on his licence in three
years. At the time of the offence he already had 10 points.
Magistrates
at the Warwickshire Justice Centre, Leamington Spa told Yorke he would
be sent to prison if he was caught driving during his ban.
He
was also ordered to pay a £1,665 fine, reduced from £2,500 due to his
early guilty plea, as well as a victim surcharge of £120 and court costs
of £85.
Sentencing,
chairman of the bench, Pat Cole, said: 'We have decided that you will
receive six penalty points for doing 66mph in a 40mph limit, which makes
you a totter.
'We have heard no argument for exceptional hardship and so you are disqualified for six months.
'If you do drive in that time you will be committing a serious offence for which you will be sent to prison.
'You will not get your driving licence back automatically and you will have to apply to the DVLA for a new licence.
'As you have not filled out a means form we have had to make an assumption in deciding your fine.'
